Masonry "foundation" and "wall (column) shaft" split at design levels: same material at the design indoor floor (with basements, at the design basement indoor floor); with different materials, where the material line lies within plus/minus 0.30 m of the design indoor floor the material line divides, beyond it the design indoor floor divides; stone foundation versus plinth at the design outdoor level, plinth versus wall shaft at the design indoor floor; stone fences with different levels inside and outside divide at the lower level, the level difference forming a retaining wall with the wall shaft above it; fences on one level divide at the design outdoor level. - Same material (same class and type): with a basement, at the design basement indoor floor; without, at the design indoor floor.
- Different materials: where the material line lies within plus/minus 300 mm (0.30 m) of the design indoor floor, the material line divides; beyond plus/minus 300 mm, at the design basement indoor floor or design indoor floor according to basement presence. - Brick trenches do not split wall base from shaft - their quantities merge by material and take the corresponding items.
- Fences divide at the design ground level (Shaanxi 2024 note II.2 refined: where the levels inside and outside the fence are the same, the design outdoor level divides - foundation below, wall shaft above; where they differ, the lower level divides, the level difference being a retaining wall with the wall shaft above it).
2. Split of stone foundation, stone wall and plinth Foundation and plinth divide at the design outdoor level, plinth and wall shaft at the design indoor floor (Shaanxi 2024 the same: "where a stone plinth sits between stone foundation and stone wall, foundation and plinth divide at the design outdoor level, plinth and wall shaft at the design indoor floor"). Stone fences with different levels inside and outside divide at the lower level; where the level difference forms a retaining wall, the wall shaft starts above it.
3. Merging rules for foundation items
- Brick foundations do not split column, wall or pipe foundations, nor walling width or presence of stepped footings - one item per brick type and size; stone foundations likewise per stone dressing size and walling method (railway the same: "brick foundations take the same item per brick type and size regardless of walling width or stepped footings").
- Brick formwork to downstand members under underground rafts, brick retaining walls and brick shaft linings of dug piles apply the brick-foundation items (railway: "brick formwork to underground concrete members and brick retaining walls apply the brick-foundation items").
- Brick retaining walls band separately by thickness (Hunan 2024, 2025 edition in the source data: over 2 bricks takes the brick-foundation items, within 2 bricks the brick-wall items; Jiangsu 2024, 2026 edition in the source data: by top width against the corresponding wall-thickness items).

Applicability Boundaries
- Splits follow "design" levels (design indoor floor, design outdoor level, design basement indoor floor), not site-measured levels or as-built practice.
- The plus/minus 300 mm threshold applies only where foundation and wall (column) shaft use different classes or types of material; with one material the design indoor floor (basement variant) always divides.
- Fences divide specially: differing levels inside and out divide at the lower level, the difference standing alone as a retaining wall, never merged into the shaft.
- Regional banding of retaining walls by thickness differs slightly; follow the current quota chapter notes and item splits of the project location.
